A New Player In The Game - Greer Steel Goes Stainless

Tuesday, 17 July 2007 16:39

Dover, OH—Greer Steel, one of the nation’s premier producers of cold rolled strip steel, has announced a new edition to its product line: 420 stainless steel.

According to Charles Maul, Greer Steel’s vice president of commercial, “With the addition of stainless to our product line-up, Greer will be able to provide the marketplace with an alternative to what is now available. Greer has long had a reputation for meeting customers’ most demanding requirements for precise specifications and superior quality. We’ll apply that same attention to detail to our new stainless product by offering guaranteed properties and gauge tolerances. Additionally, our unique ability to do narrow width slitting in-house provides added value for our customers.”

Grade 420 stainless steel, a modification of 410 stainless, has a higher carbon content to increase hardness, improve strength and give better wear resistance. Applications requiring high hardness and good corrosion resistance are ideal for this alloy product.

Typical applications include knife blades, cutlery, surgical instruments, needle valves, shear blades and many other applications requiring sharp-edge retention and/or high strength properties. Greer Steel can currently provide 420 stainless steel coils in thicknesses of 0.010" to 0.145" (0.25 mm to 3.68 mm) and widths up to and including 26" (660 mm). Cut to length sheets are available in gauges from 0.022”-0.145”. Greer will offer material with carbon content ranging from 0.15 to 0.45 to meet customer’s requirements.
