30" Mill Gets Additional Upgrades

Dover,OH—When it comes to horsepower---whether it’s for a highly refined race car or a rough and tough steel mill---one thing is true: if a little is good, more is better. Such was the thinking behind Greer Steel’s recent decision to add a new, more powerful mill motor to the strip steel producer’s 30” Mill.
As part of an ongoing capital improvement program, Greer added the new mill motor as a means of achieving increased horsepower. The new motor has boosted horsepower from 1000hp to 1200hp which gives Greer the option of taking larger reductions per pass or running the mill at increased speeds with the same reduction levels. The gear box was also upgraded to compliment the added power.
While the 30” mill has consistently provided Greer and its customers with superior quality, upgrades made to the mill throughout the past year have helped to raise the bar, allowing the mill to produce strip with even tighter gauge and shape control.
